Abstract

Substations are critical nodes in power transmission and distribution systems, and effective risk management is essential for ensuring system reliability, operational safety, and resilience against growing threats. This paper examines future trends in substation risk management, with a focus on advancements driven by digitalization, cyber-physical integration, artificial intelligence (AI), and climate resilience. As infrastructure ages and threats become increasingly complex, risk management in substations must evolve from reactive models to proactive, predictive, and adaptive frameworks. The study examines emerging technologies, regulatory frameworks, and data-driven strategies expected to shape the substation landscape over the next decade.
