The show discusses the Seismic Retrofitting of RCC Buildings using various retrofitting methods. A seismic tremor can threaten the lives of many people and cause damage to properties. Such disasters often lead to financial losses as well. In some cases, structural failure results in the collapse of buildings, putting lives at risk. Engineers focus on plans that can withstand repairable damage without collapsing. Therefore, there are certain methods to maintain buildings and prevent such damage, which is known as Seismic Retrofitting. Primarily, retrofitting is done for public properties like temples, hospitals, and monuments, as well as for private properties that are more vulnerable to seismic forces. Seismic retrofitting involves making existing buildings safer for earthquakes, usually by adding structural elements or installing devices that can resist the forces generated by seismic activity. During construction, many buildings are not reinforced properly. In many earthquake-prone areas, people do not consider seismic forces when designing and building structures. Retrofitting is aimed at improving construction quality and increasing the load-bearing capacity. This includes a variety of retrofitting methods such as bracing, jacketing, dampers, base isolation, and shear walls used in RCC buildings to enhance stiffness. Retrofitting leads to increased rigidity, reduced story drift, and decreased displacement.
